Ardecs at Java-conference Joker 2017
It has become a tradition for employees of the Ardecs company to take part in an international Java-conference Joker, which was held in 3-4 November 2017 in Saint Petersburg.
This year, as in years past, demanded Java-technologies were the main topic under discussion. One of the main features of Joker is providing with discussion areas, where after the presentations are delivered, speakers gather together for the live communication and discussion, which helps to create new ideas in the world of Java-development.
Here are just a few examples of topics, being presented at the conference:
- JVM/JDK under the hood (Runtime, GC, OpenJDK);
- Architecture of Java-projects;
- Developer tools;
- Data storages (SQL/NoSQL/Cloud);
- Frameworks (Spring, Spark, Hibernate);
- JVM programming languages.
The conference program covered 2 days, the presentations were being delivered in 4 halls at the same time, and every guest could find an interesting and useful topic.

Sergey Ilminskih:
Taking part in the event I got a vast improvement in positive feelings from interacting with interesting people, who are working on the most interesting projects. Variety of areas, where you can spend time besides attending the presentations, just surprises. You don't have another second to get bored, there is always an opportunity to communicate with the speaker and other participants in a discussion area, ask arisen questions, share your own opinion. There were presentations for all tastes, we got a lot to choose according to the difficulty level, topic of concern or even language of a speaker.
I'd like to note the most interesting topics for me personally, which I attended: "Boot yourself, Spring is coming" (Evgeny Borisov, Kirill Tolkachev), "Event sourcing, event-driven architectures and CQRS" (Sebastian Daschner), "Java 9 Modules. Why not OSGi?" (Nikita Lipsky), "Event Sourcing and CQRS by example" (Anuar Nurmakanov).
Every presentation gives you something new and exciting, shows really cool things people do. Despite the fatigue or lack of language skills, every can highlight something interesting and catchy from the presentations for further research on the topic or technology.
Rifat Galiev:
I first wish to point out that the conference was well organized and had an friendly ambiance. The presentations were various and engaging, my favorite ones were: "Boot yourself, Spring is coming" (Evgeny Borisov, Kirill Tolkachev), "GraphQL — APIs in a new way" (Vladimir Tsukur) and "Event Sourcing and CQRS by example" (Anuar Nurmakanov).
Pavel Knyazev:
For me, the most exciting was the time between presentations: I found there was never a dull moment. For instance, you could perform tasks, given by companies-sponsors, and win a prize if succeeded. You could also play some retro gadgets and just speak with many interesting people.
Concerning presentations, we had a lot of options: lectures were both for real professionals in some technology, as well as for newbies; it was also exciting to listen to English-speaking lecturers and challenge your language level. If I have an opportunity, I will surely go there next time with great pleasure.
We hope that our colleagues will share the most interesting information about technologies and methods, being researched after the conference visit, in the nearest future.
